Amsterdam Candlelight Cruise

One of the more delightful ways to pass some time in Amsterdam is to take a candlelight cruise through the cities canals. Setting off from the dock at Central station, the cruise offered an excellent view of the city at night and was certainly a big change from much of what the city has to offer with regards to night-time treats.

Our table was filled with cheese and wine and assorted snacks and the cruise managed to combine the feel of a casual night out, we travelled in a group of 4 but the setting would also make a romantic evening for any couple, with the sense of being educated about the city.

The guide was very helpful in answering questions and pointing out areas of interest and local fact and although it will depend on your fellow passengers, we had a great time and found it easy to talk to other travellers and shared our experiences with them.

Amsterdam clearly has a lot to offer and if you are taking the time to research the city before you travel there, it probably means you are looking for a bit more than the cultural stereotypes of hash cakes and red light areas. They’re all well and good but the candlelight cruise offers up an experience of Amsterdam that isn’t so readily talked about it and it comes highly recommended.
