Amsterdam tours, sightseeing and things to do

Amsterdam must sees

Went to the Van Gogh museum.   Starry Night wasn't there.   Overall I think it was overpriced.

The Ann Frank house was amazing.   I grew up having to read the journal in school.   So I feel that I know a lot of Ann Frank's life.   At least what was included in her journals. Even though they had eight people in the top portion of the house, it seemed larger than what I imagined.   I guess if you're stuck there 24x7 for years, it'd be a bit small.   Her pictures that she glued to the walls are still there.   Most of the furniture is gone, having been taken by the Nazis.   It’s a very somber experience and worth the price for getting in.

There are some places that are interesting to hang out after visiting a coffeehouse.   One of the more interesting places is in “Leidse Plein.”   Besides just people watching, there is a park with iguana statues.   Nearby is a human sized chess board.   You can a friend can move larger than life chess pieces across the sidewalk.

One of the best people watching places is in the red light district (very close to the Anne Frank House if you’re coordinating things to do).   During the day, the window offerings aren’t as spectacular, but it does liven up in the evening.   You know you’re in the red light district because there are red lanterns hanging outside the doors.   The evening gets a little interesting with all of the sketchy characters come out to prey on tourists.   For the most part, it’s safe if you’re in a group.   I wouldn’t flash a lot of money around or carry much more than I needed.   Just use common sense and you’ll be OK.
